[Review] Maroon 5 V Tour in Christchurch

5:19 PM

Maroon 5 delivered a sweet, but shortish lesson in slick pop-rock in Christchurch on Thursday night.
Showmanship might have been in short supply, but the California band appeared to strike all the right notes with the near capacity crowd at Horncastle Arena.
From the initial drumbeats of recent hit Animals to the uptempo keyboards of 2004-charter Sunday Morning, the seven-strong band had the all-ages audience in the palm of their hands throughout a breathless 81-minute set that seamlessly segued from song to song.
If the lack of any banter whatsoever disappointed, and the band, and especially lead singer Adam Levine, looked weary from a hectic touring schedule (they've been criss-crossing Asia for the last month as part of their 13 month-long V tour) in the first half, things perked up when he let the crowd start off the band's first major hit This Love.
Appearing to re-energise The Voice coach and aspiring actor Levine, that was one of the concert highlights, along with his hot pink guitar solo, a Barbershop quintet-style opening to Payphone and an acoustic version of She Will Be Loved. That last song also kicked off a perfectly-pitched encore trio that also included the much-loved Moves Like Jagger and Sugar.

Additional Note: Many were disappointed by Adam Levine's lack of interaction and energy probably due to exhaustion after months of touring. Other sources also mentioned that he was annoyed at the technical difficulty relating to his earpiece.
