[News] Maroon 5 Super Bowl Halftime Show Would Cap Huge Year For Adam Levine’s Band

Inquisitr - Maroon 5 is seemingly on top of the world. And, with the possibility of a Super Bowl halftime show in the works, it looks like the Adam Levine fronted group could cap off a mega year that saw the band rake in millions of dollars.

As reported by Entertainment Tonight, Adam Levine appeared on the Howard Stern show recently to dispel rumors that Maroon 5 was a lock to perform with Bruno Mars at the Super Bowl on February 7. At the same time, he also made it a point to campaign for Maroon 5 to be selected.

“We’ve been on a short list for a number of years,” Levine told Howard. “I would love there to be…The band would be thrilled to do it.”

When questioned further by Stern as to how Adam Levine knew Maroon 5 was on a short list, Levine candidly remarked that he’s had conversations with his manager about performing at the coveted gig. He also offered his opinion as to how the NFL ultimately decides who gets to play.

“I don’t know what their motivations are other than they want the best [band] for the job. [Maroon 5] very actively wants to play the Super Bowl.”

And, why wouldn’t they? The Super Bowl is the number one TV event in the world, offering bands unprecedented access to a new audience for their music. Just last year, according to Deadline, the game reached record number ratings.

“The bone crunching down to the last minute clash between the winning Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks drew a historic 114.5 million viewers. Topping the 112.2 million audience of last year’s 43-8 blowout game on Fox.”

Last year’s halftime performer Katy Perry got a huge boost as well with the “Fireworks” star’s 8 – 8:30 p.m. eastern time performance with Missy Elliot and Lenny Kravitz snagging “118.5 million viewers.” As Deadline points out, that’s a “more than 3 million viewer jump over the record breaking 115.3 million that Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers got [the year before]. The previous halftime champion was Madonna’s 2012 performance with M.I.A and Nicki Minaj and more.

Whether or not Maroon 5 is able to snag the spot or not, 2015 has still been a banner year for Adam Levine and company. As reported by Billboard, Maroon 5’s V tour has raked in some big bucks so far.

“Ticket sales totaling $52.2 million lands on the tally based on 653,984 sold tickets at 45 performances reported during the past week. Adding the shows that were reported to Billboard in previous weeks, the tour’s overall gross now reaches $71.1 million from a total of 60 concerts in 2015, attended by 874,880 fans.”

Maroon 5 began their tour earlier this year in the United States before heading overseas where the group played both Europe and Asia. They wrapped the V tour by performing in New Zealand and Australia before announcing a Latin America leg for 2016. The madness and millions will seemingly continue.

Of course, not everything on this tour has gone perfectly for Adam Levine and Maroon 5. The group’s China gigs were inexplicably cancelled after their guitar player James Valentine tweeted a happy birthday wish to the Dali Lama. The rumor had it that his tweet angered Chinese officials so much the The Maroon 5 dates in Shanghai were cancelled.

There had also been reports of rampant ticket scalping that effectively blocked the average fan from getting into the show in Taiwan. The end result actually worked in favor for the group, however, as a second show was then added to accommodate fans’ complaints. That 2-day stint raked in “$3.6 million in sales reported from 38,996 sold seats at the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall,” according to Billboard.

There’s no telling how much more dough Adam Levine and Maroon 5 could take in if they land the Super Bowl halftime show. But, with the NFL season in full swing, the announcement should be forthcoming soon enough.
